Interagency Roundtable + Community Classroom - September 2026
Interagency is your space to connect, share your programs, and collaborate with peers across the sector. Swap stories, tackle challenges together, and spark new ideas while strengthening your agency’s impact in the community. Now, Interagency also includes the Community Classroom — a learning component where you can dive deeper into community offerings and gain insights from trusted local partners who are subject matter experts. While the roundtable focuses on sharing your own experiences, the Community Classroom gives you the chance to attend, explore, and learn from the innovative work happening across the sector.

Customer Service Training for Nonprofits
This interactive session supports nonprofit staff in strengthening customer service by building the skills needed to navigate conflict, communicate effectively, and respond to real-world challenges with confidence.
Through discussion and reflection, staff will strengthen their ability to problem-solve, prioritize tasks, and use available tools to support smooth, effective interactions.
The Next 10: Social Profit Sector Workshop - Shaping the Community Safety and Social Well-Being Plan
The Next 10: Social Profit Sector Workshop brings together social profit leaders, staff, and board members from across the Wood Buffalo region to help shape the Community Safety and Social Well-Being Plan for the next ten years. The workshop is part 2 of the campaign, following the The Next 10 survey, open to social profit organizations across the region through October 5.
In the morning, participants review what the survey found and name the gaps that still exist. In the afternoon, organizations map out who could carry that work forward with the right resources. The workshop closes with the sector’s own proposal to the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo for how this kind of collaboration should continue over the next decade.
The Next 10 is an initiative of FuseSocial and the Tomorrow Project, in partnership with United Way Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo, the Wood Buffalo Community Foundation, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, and Suncor.
Open to all social profit organizations in the Wood Buffalo region.

The Alberta Board Member Essentials (ABME) program offers comprehensive training for new and advancing board members through a blend of online modules and in-person interactive workshops, equipping them to serve effectively on nonprofit boards.

Financial Literacy for Nonprofits
Six sessions. Two days. Everything your board and staff need to read, build, and manage the numbers with confidence.
Over two days, CPA Monica Ball walks you through the full financial picture of running a nonprofit, from your bylaws and internal controls to budgets, financial statements, audits, and compliance. You’ll leave with the tools, templates, and confidence to actually understand what you’re looking at and ask the right questions.
This training is built for board members, executive directors, and staff who touch finances but don’t have a formal accounting background. No prior finance experience needed.

What You’ll Learn
Roles and Responsibilities: Governance principles, board effectiveness, roles of the board versus management, duties of directors and officers, financial delegation, bylaws, and special resolutions.
Financial Policies and Procedures: Sample policies and formats, internal controls, and the red flags you should never ignore.
Developing and Tracking Budgets: Budget basics, the budget process, and a hands-on case study.
Financial Statements: Financial responsibilities, the components of financial statements, how they’re prepared, and how to review them.
Year End Preparation: Review versus audit, audit concepts and process, and how to prepare for year end.
Compliance and Reporting: What compliance means, who’s responsible for it, and the specific requirements for registered charities.

Through practical exercises and reflection, participants develop empathy, explore the realities of aging, and better understand how expectations and experiences evolve over time.
